PC Drivers
« on: August 26, 2017, 09:32:01 AM »
In order for the Windows Gecho App to run, you may need to install drivers for the CH340G chip (the USB to Serial converter located on the board).

You can download it from our website - v3.3 zip archive / v3.4 zip archive or from the official website - v3.4 zip archive / v3.4 executable

(this "Chinese website" is the chip manufacturer's own website so it should be safe)

How to install - I haven't verified this tutorial but it looks good.

Gecho App in its current version (v041 beta) will try to auto-detect the board but without necessary drivers it will hang. Also, make sure the board is connected and detected by the system as a USB device - the orange USB LED should blink in a pattern of 3x2 blinks shortly after plugged in.

The driver doesn't work for me, I cannot install it. It screws up with a "Driver install failure!" message. Windows 10 64-bit.

That's with the link you provided, along with what seems to be another (64-bit) driver on that site.

I tried compatibility mode and elevated user stuff but that didn't help (same result).

Does it all only work in 32-bit Windows?

Hi InactiveX, no it should be working in 64bit, I am using it on few Win7 64bit computers and although I don't have any Win10 here, guys who use it said it worked (this is the official driver and there is no better one).

What happens when you plug the Gecho in USB? Does the orange LED blink at all?

I've read somewhere that certain antivirus may report that driver to contain trojan, but it's false alarm - maybe your one is blocking the installation?

I updated my Gecho on a Windows 10 (64bit) machine using the http://gechologic.com/gechologists/download/gecho_app_v050b.zip Gecho App. I only got a weird error message if I ran the App when the Gecho was not plugged into a USB port prior to launching the App.

I'll be launching that App a bit more frequently now to check for firmware updates. If you haven't updated the Gecho's firmware yet I recommend it. The latest version corrected some hangs and bothers.

The Volume and other settings are now universally preserved... they don't reset when launching a new program... even after a shutdown... just remember that if you mess them up (reset) 43214321 (set) will reset them all to factory default.

I definitely prefer the new method to the reset everything on every program change.

Hope that weird message is not showing up anymore, if it does please let me know what it says - I went through the code replacing lower level / system messages with more meaningful and user friendly wording but surely missed some... :) Thanks!

NB The "weird message" that I found was when installing the driver, not the Gecho software.

Ah cool then! :) I'll look at having that pesky driver installed automatically in the background at the first run... seeing how it sometimes misbehaves worries me a bit.

I can report that the 3.41 driver installed OK on Win 7 32-bit, and the .061 app recognised the Gecho.

When I tried to install the same driver on Win 10 64-bit I got a generic 'Driver install failed' message, but it didn't seem to matter, as the app still recognised the Gecho.

Hi, do you have v1 or v2 model?

V1 is compatible with Win10, the app is 32bit.

V2 doesn't have app yet and doesn't need drivers. I'm working on something that can at least do a fw update, it will be handy if you don't have a SD card at hand.

There seems to be a confusion despite red text on the app download page, I am wondering if there is another place where the app is linked, and I forgot to add this information.
