Adding the 3V line to the battery
« on: July 19, 2017, 03:00:12 PM »
I thought I'd post up a picture to show how I added the 3V line to the battery holder.

I used the sharp tip of a needle to bend out some of the metal retaining tabs on the appropriate part of the holder for 3V, and placed the green (3V) wire in under a metal tab, flattening it afterwards to keep hold well. I did this on two adjacent tabs on the terminal, for extra strength.

To reinforce things, I bound the three wires together with a zip tie, leaving a little slack on the new 3V line.

NB don't try soldering anything to the battery holder as the plastic will melt in about two seconds.

This is a very neat solution, thanks for sharing!

With triple-AAA holders, a wire-connector pin was included, to be inserted into the relevant spring... which might not be too handy when replacing batteries. But I guess I haven't posted any picture of that modification - your one is much better.

Indeed, trying to solder anything on the holder results in immediate disaster :)

Ah right, I did find a wire pin but couldn't really think of a way to wedge it in right.

I like the way I got the three wires to come out of the same side of the battery holder. It's just a bit tidier, I think.

Interesting solution InactiveX. I'm going to try it out.

Hope it works for you Baynes.

Here's a photo of the battery compartment with everything in place.
